How To Pitch Us
Generally, I can divide the pitches that we’ve received into two categories: effective and non-effective. Effective pitches include: clean email copy (which demonstrates level of writing); clear pitches and story ideas; examples of work; professional mention of work placed at other outlets (not humblebrags); and strong indication that you can file on time.
Non-effective pitches include: bad email copy (sure sign of writing quality and an indication of what the editing will be like); unclear pitches and incomplete story ideas; announcements that you have a “lots stories”, etc., with an invitation for us to contact you if we want one of them.
The BEST pitches demonstrate what you are interested in, not what you think we may like. Dating and sex is a specific category, but one with an infinite number angles to take. So if there’s something that interesting about your personal story, chances are it will move us — or at least encourage us to keep you in mind.
